In November 2005, during Chinese President Hu Jintao's state visit to Spain, the First China-Spain Business Summit was held in Madrid. I was honored to attend the summit and made many friends during the event.
During dinner, my new friends began talking about happiness. Some believed that happiness could be found in various forms. Different people in different eras have different understandings of happiness. Some considered taking a photo with President Hu and attending his speech a form of happiness.
As I continued quietly listening, a neighbor asked me for my opinion on happiness.
I too believe the definition of happiness varies from person to person. No one is perpetually happy or sad. For example, I considered listening to President Hu's speech a form of happiness. As for my wife, she found some happiness through seeing me on TV listening to President Hu's speech. She was so excited that she made an international phone call. My employees were also happy and proud to see me on TV.
Although happiness exists everywhere, people still need to locate and experience it. Some don’t appreciate what they have. Those who always believe the grass is greener on the other side will never find happiness. However, some poor people who are considered at the bottom of the society possess happiness. For those who subsist by picking up ashes, a lump of coal brings happiness. For those who are ill, happiness comes from a doctor’s visit and encouraging remarks about their health. For those in prison, happiness can arrive in the form of a commuted sentence. Teachers are happy when their students succeed, and entrepreneurs are happy when business takes off. If you desire happiness to accompany your entire life, you must become self-satisfied.
A person encounters both happy and sad experiences everyday. An entrepreneur, with several hundred employees working for him or her, cannot always smile. In these circumstances, they need to maintain good mentality, remembering the happy things and forgetting worries. Tell happy things to friends, and let them share the happiness. Depression and bad moods not only drive away happiness, but also harm health.
Becoming cheerful everyday is a kind of happiness. Shake off your worries and only recall the happiness; tomorrow will be better.
